Haeggquist & Eck is proud to join Lawyers Club of San Diego in its bid to persuade First Lady Michelle Obama to travel to America’s Finest City to speak to Lawyers Club members. In connection with the organization’s campaign, Haeggquist & partners Amber Eck and Alreen Haeggquist wrote to the First Lady to ask that she consider the club’s invitation – read on for the full text of the letter.
Dear Mrs. Obama,
You have long inspired us with your wisdom, grace and commitment. You have pushed us to rise above the fray, as you have. As lawyers, we stand in awe of your achievements and as mother’s in awe of your parenting two strong intelligent young women in the world’s biggest spotlight. In this time when our children stand witness to such disparaging role models in politics, you stand as a beacon of hope and a woman they can look up to with pride and we would be beyond honored if you would consider making San Diego a stop on your Spring speaking tour.
We are reaching out to you today as members of Lawyers Club – an organization that, like you, has long fought to advance the status of women in law and society. Since its inception in 1971 (after its “founding mothers” were denied entry to the men-only Grant Grill for lunch), San Diego Lawyers Club has worked tirelessly to eliminate gender discrimination in the legal community and at large, and has become the preeminent resource for female attorneys in San Diego to network, leverage valuable education and professional opportunities, support one another, and advance their careers. It is a tremendous asset to our community, and our firm is proud to be one of the club’s Silver Sponsors.
To that end, here’s a little about us: our firm, which was founded and is led entirely by women partners, is dedicated to representing employees who have been experienced discrimination or harassment in the workplace, citizens who have been defrauded by the largest corporations in America (we are the firm that took on Donald Trump and brought the Trump University lawsuit), as well as challenging corporate fraud in shareholder derivative actions. Stated simply, we are tireless advocates for our clients, who are frequently underdogs.
And we know that’s a message that resonates with you. From your Let’s Move campaign to your Reach Higher initiative to your incredible Let Girls Learn project, yours is a platform that is dedicated to empowering and encouraging America’s youth — and particularly women. We believe the mission and mindset of Lawyers Club and of our firm are incredibly compatible with yours, and we would be thrilled if you would agree to come to San Diego to speak to Lawyers Club as your schedule permits.
We look forward to welcoming you to America’s Finest City!
