Happy New Year from All of Us at HAE!!!
This week we’re highlighting employment law associate Robert Prine.
Hometown: San Diego, California
Family stats: Just me! But I am fortunate to have both my parents in San Diego.
Neighborhood: Golden Hill.
Why SD: It has always felt like home. I have not outgrown the city, and I’m not sure I ever will. Instead, I’ve learned to love San Diego more every day and count my blessings that I get to live in paradise. I have a special bond with the community and I am happy that my profession allows me to give back to America’s Finest City.
What inspired you to pursue a career in law? During my first year of Undergrad, I accidentally enrolled in Political Jurisprudence – an upper-division class about philosophy and law. I was in way over my head. Surprisingly, I loved the class and decided to switch my major from music to legal studies. I also yearned for a fulfilling profession where I could give back to the community. After a few years of contemplation, I knew a career in law was the right fit for me.
Why did you choose to pursue plaintiffs work? At the beginning of my legal career, I worked at well-respected insurance defense firm. While I thought the work was challenging, I was missing out on a big part of why I became a lawyer – to give back to the San Diego community. Switching sides enabled me to help my community in a more personal way.
What has been your most exciting moment as a lawyer? Every day is exciting, fulfilling, and terrifying. But if I had to choose one moment, I would say settling my first case. My client was ecstatic, and I was reminded why I undertook a profession where every day is exciting, fulfilling, and terrifying.
Favorite “locals-only” SD spot or activity? Hamilton’s Tavern in South Park. Craft beer and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, can you ask for more in life?
What’s your perfect SD day? 3-4 games of pick-up basketball at Crown Point followed by a buttery jam session. Then, food, drinks, and good company in North Park or Ocean Beach.
I don’t leave home without __________: Sunglasses. See Question #4.
Favorite leisure activity? Playing classical music on the piano.
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you? I’m a huge film snob. It’s a blessing and a curse, well, mainly a curse.
Why HAE? HAE represents my core values. HAE cares about its clients, our community, and fights tooth-and-nail to vindicate their rights. Alreen and Amber are virtuosos of the law and it has been a blessing to work alongside them.
